Trail Ratings Defined (revised Nov 2016)

What do the trail ratings mean?

Trails are rated for difficulty based on Incline and Terrain so you can more easily choose which one meets your walking capabilities. Most walks in the relatively flat Florida terrain are rated 1.  Certain walk conditions can raise the level to a 1C or 2C rating such as Park paths and beach conditions. There are few walks in Florida with > 500 foot cumulative elevation gain.  These ratings were updated on 6 July 2012 and issued 1 August 2012 by AVA.

Details are found in the AVA Policy Manual, page 41.
